Oh Snap Week 5 – Salvinia (Salvinia molesta) also known as Kariba Weed/Water fern is a mat-forming, free-floating invasive alien aquatic plant (IAAP). It is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions around the world and is easily spread by water currents, wind, floods, animals, and boating activities. Thick mats of this IAAP can lead to a build-up of organic matter, resulting in low oxygen levels and poor water quality. This photo of salvinia was captured in the upper reaches of the Swartkops Estuary. What else can you see???👀
If salvinia is present in an estuary near you, please capture a geo-tagged photograph of it and send us the ESTUARY NAME and PHOTOGRAPH to email@example.com.
This concludes our IAAP Citizen Science Series. All the previous posts are available in the Citizen Science Album on our page. #citizenscience #invasivespecies #estuaries #finalweek ...
They are so infantile to be watching planes flying like little kids. The climate and ecological crisis is rapidly escalating. G7 pours fantasy amounts into fossil fuels as CO2 emissions are forecast for 2nd biggest annual rise ever.
But the G7 leaders really seem to be having a good time presenting their empty climate commitments and repeating old unfulfilled promises.
Of course this calls for a steak-and-lobster-BBQ-celebration while jet planes perform aerobatics in the sky above the G7 resort!
